Fourth Of July Crafts

I’ve been seeing some really cute July 4th crafts being talked about and demonstrated online so I thought I would share a few with you. It’s always fun to get the kids involved in the decorating. It’s even cooler when the decorating is an activity in itself – like a craft project!

4th of July Uncle Sam Hat

This looks really cute and pretty easy to do, as well. So I think kids of all ages can participate. The littler ones may have to just help out with the decorating, but, it is definitely not a craft that completely leaves them out. I like that.

Statue of Liberty Crown

For this one, the kids will definitely need some help, but, it is so cute that it is totally worth it! I think they’ll love it!

Fourth of July Centerpiece Decoration

I love the sand centerpiece in this video, but, I’m not really a fan of the second one that is shown. I just don’t think it looks all that pretty.

And if you’d like a way easier centerpiece that is still really cute – and inexpensive – check out this post at Wooden Spoon: DIY 4th of July Table Centerpiece for $8 I really want to make that one! I love how the ribbon looks in the jar!

Fireworks for New Years?

How long has this been a tradition? And how did it get started? Don’t we do enough fireworks on July 4th? I first heard of doing fireworks when I went to my sister-in-law’s brother’s house in Rowlett, Texas one year for New Year’s Eve. I think that was about six or seven years ago. She and her family and all of their friends were Philipino, and we were the only white people there, and so I thought it must be a Philipino tradition. We had fun, but, I just had never heard of doing fireworks for New Year’s before.

The funny thing is, though, now that I’m in Alabama – I learn that it is totally common practice. Heck, my friend, Julie – in Las Vegas, was even going to watch fireworks on the strip! I guess it’s just been that long since I actually went out on New Year’s Eve. We sometimes will have people over to our house, or go to some party that actually ends before ringing in the new year. Haha! So I guess I’m just out of touch!

In this small town, though, people do fireworks at home and no one bats an eye! In the city, that is totally not cool, and people get fined heavily for it. So last night, Puppy and I were sitting in my office, when outside my window – about 7pm – went the BIGGEST, LOUDEST RUCKUS!!! The neighbor boy was setting off fireworks in the street and it was about twenty feet from my office window! Puppy and I almost went through the ceiling! And that was how it began…

Fireworks went off, intermittently throughout the evening, and 120 pounds of big, overgrown baby (more like, five year old big ass dog!) was up my butt ALL NIGHT LONG! I’m talking until about 1am! They were going off all over the neighborhood. My poor, sweet Puppy was so upset!

And then, this morning, on Skype with my mom, I happen to mention to her that we were under a Fire Caution/Wind Advisory…. not even putting the two things together until she pointed it out!

Damn hillbillies!

Lucy sent us a Christmas card

I know you guys remember my talking about Lucy, my sweet little Chihuahua sister. She lives in Dallas, with my mom. Duh. Otherwise, why would I have a Chihuahua for a sister?! Haha! Isn’t she pretty, though?
Well, the little darling has gone and sent us a Christmas card. I know, for a fact, that this will thrill my big, tough redneck man. He loves little dogs. Loves them.

I am, as well, duly thrilled. The darn card is so cute, I can’t even stand it! How lucky for Lucy (sounds like a song, eh?) that she was able to find a festive holiday card with none other than a Chihuahua on the front!

Aww…how cool is that? And it is just a painting, no Chihuahua’s necks were put under undue strain for our holiday enjoyment!

I just think it was terribly thoughtful of Lucy (and Momma) to send us a card.

I need to buy gifts for them – I wonder, if I got Momma a wine of the month club membership, do you think I should get Lucy a ‘kibble of the month’ club membership? 😉

I’m gonna have to Skype my momma so I can video chat with my sweet “Lucita”!

Vampire Chef Sammie and her Halloween recipes

Isn’t she cute, ya’ll? Don’t ya think she should have her very own cooking show?

You can check out the awesome, wonderful, stupendously fun cookbook right here:

Halloween cuteness

Sammie really wanted to embrace nature this Halloween and be a tiger. She is completely obsessed with tigers right now. I’m not sure how she got off course of that, but, now she is going to be a vampire lady. Her costume is really pretty, but, I think kids in animal masks are just so cute. Of course, I imagine that had she gone ahead with that costume, we wouldn’t have used a mask. The one time that I was a cat, I wore a headband with ears attached to it and painted my face to look like a cat. And that is more along the lines of what Sammie had been talking about. And I bet she would’ve made the cutest tiger ever! Well, maybe we’ll have to try that out next year. This year – vampire queen it is!

Halloween ROCKS!

Mark just got back from the store with Sammie and Shawn. They went to get groceries, but, they also went looking for Halloween goodies. The kids needed costumes and we needed a little more stuff for the house. Our decorations are a bit sparse. Neither of the kids got an animal costume, but, they did get neat ones! Sammie got a Vampire Lady dress that is so pretty and she got a pitchfork and some pointy teeth to go with it. Shawn got a black hooded robe and this very cool, and long, staff – that actually has a skull inside a plastic ball that lights up and spins! I can’t wait to see how it works! Patrick is not quite sure what he’ll be doing this year, if he is actually going to dress up or not. I imagine at the last minute, he’ll throw on some kind of ghoulish makeup and go like that. Whatever he decides, I know we will all have fun. This is the best Halloween neighborhood we have ever lived in! I cannot wait!!

My favorite holiday

Ya’ll probably know my favorite holiday is Halloween! I just love it! It is so cool to get to dress up and ‘become’ someone else for a night – and all of the festivities are so fun – especially haunted houses!!! Well, I was looking at this website with Sexy Halloween Costumes and I found some super cute ones! I really like this sexy country girl costume:
Isn’t that cute? I would love it if, by October, I had lost enough weight to feel comfortable in something like that! I just might get there! I think I might rather have a witch costume, though – I always loved dressing up like a sexy witch!
